Responsible for Purchase, Sales and Registration Departments. P&L accountability. Primary targets: managing daily commercial activities. Developing new (private) markets for a new line of branded generic OTC and Rx drugs. Setting up a distribution network in Africa, Latin America and Far East.

Bilim Pharmaceuticals A.S. in Istanbul, Turkey. Worked as expatriate. Bilim is the second leading pharmaceutical manufacturer & marketer of branded generics in Turkey (turnover: US$ 112 million, 1,100 employees) I was responsible for all international sales & marketing & registration activities. P&L accountable. Extensive overseas travelling involved (+60%).


03/1997-01/1999 Sales Manager
Amstelfarma B.V. in Haarlem, the Netherlands (40 employees) An internationally operating pharmaceutical & devices wholesaler and small manufacturer of Rx drugs. I was responsible for a number of key sales accounts, plus acquisition of new customers. Contract negotiations with Health Ministries and NGOs. Very frequent travelling within Europe and Africa (+40%).


06/1995-03/1997 Purchase Manager
Amstelfarma B.V. Promoted to vice-head of the department and right hand of the commercial director of the company. At a later stage full responsibility over the department (5 employees). Managing stocks of raw materials, stock and non-stock items, involve in (sales)meetings and analysing statistical data. Frequent travelling within Europe visiting (potential) manufacturers.

Amstelfarma B.V. In this role I was responsible for procuring all non-stock items, which required quite some creativity to solve problems. Sourcing of potential suppliers and setting up a database structure with critical purchase data. Some career highlights:

2002 Setting up a dealers network in Africa, Latin America and Far East for line of essential drugs for pharmacies, hospitals and clinics. Was responsible for landing a single order of USD 3,500,000.

2001 Responsible for developing the international business for Bilim (US$ 4,200,000 turnover)gained from markets outside Turkey. In addition responsible for the exports of the cosmetic division, amounting US$ 1,200,000 in y2000.

2000 Negotiated and signed 31 supply & agency agreements with foreign partners, 277 pending product registrations world wide with annual (conservative) spin-off: US$ 5,200,000.

1999 Developed an export strategy for Bilim Pharmaceuticals; analysis, market selection and implementation of entry strategies. Recruited and trained an export staff of 6 people.

1998 As sales manager at Amstelfarma responsible for achieving US$ 2,900,000 turnover.

1996 Responsibility for US$ 8,000,000 annual purchase value.

1995 Developed a database for Eurospecialites in order to select parallel import sources with best terms.

1995-1997 Master’s degree in business administration, University of Derby in UK in collaboration with the International Business School of Breda. Graduated cum laude in 1997. Awarded as ‘Best student of 1997’ of the 2y executive programme.
