Present Interim Group Financial Planning Manager, Yorkshire Chemicals Plc

I was appointed interim Group Financial Planning Manager at Yorkshire Chemicals Plc. I created and prepared the European 2004 strategic plan and budget for circulation and review by the companies bankers and the London stock market. Following the successful completion of this, I overhauled the management accounting and reporting systems of the company. I am presently tasked with managing the Plc year end process, covering preparation of full statutory accounts and audit, through to publishing accounts to the London stock exchange.

Oct '02-Sep '03 Interim Project Director, Royal London Mutual Insurance

My brief was to assume direct responsibility for a project to rectify the regulatory and financial issues within the ISA savings business unit of Royal London. I project managed the annual statutory and regulatory audits for the business unit, prepared and presented a strategic business review for the board of directors, showing where margins could be improved and costs reigned in. Additionally, I assumed relationship management duties for the outsourced ISA administrator used by Royal London. My role also encompassed submission of quarterly and annual FSA returns and resolution of regulatory compliance issues.
Following the completion of the above project, I was tasked with the migration of the business systems and accounting functions of several Royal London subsidiaries based in Edinburgh, to the Royal London administrative offices in Wilmslow and London. This enabled me to gain valuable knowledge of pooled pension fund accounting and investment property accounting.

Feb '02-Sep '02 Interim Finance Controller, NAAFI

Having enjoyed my time as a consultant at Deloitte & Touche, I decided to pursue a career in senior interim management. My first client was NAAFI. NAAFI provides retail and leisure facilities for the British Army worldwide, and has a turnover of £260 million. In recent years they have faced several business issues resulting in qualified accounts for three years running. I was brought in to bolster the management team and end the procession of qualified accounts.
I was involved in all aspects of financial management and managed over eighty members of staff. My primary duty was liaison officer with PWC on the annual audit. I managed their time, work plans and client meetings, with the objective of removing the qualification. This objective was duly achieved. My final task was the implementation of a new cash management system.

Dec '99-Dec '01 Finance Director, Signature Foods Ltd

I joined Signature Foods as a start up enterprise. As Finance Director my focus was to help guide the business in these early stages. This meant key decision making on contractual negotiations with customers, new product development, marketing strategy, IT procurement and production planning. I was more of a Managing Director at times than a Finance Director.

I managed the capital structure of the business and orchestrated a rights issue and balance sheet restructure. This led to over £750,000 of new funds being invested and a net improvement in the balance sheet of £1.8 million. I also negotiated and completed the injection of £1 million of start up funding from venture capitalist group 3i Plc. By the time I chose to leave the business turnover had grown to £7 million per annum.

My financial management responsibilities concentrated on the areas key to start up businesses such as, cash flow management, weekly profit and loss statements, customer profitability analysis and factory performance.

Mar '98-Nov '99 Senior Consultant, Deloitte & Touche Management Solutions

I joined Deloitte & Touche as an Analyst and progressed to Senior Consultant within twelve months. I specialised in Financial Management and IT systems. Financial Management assignments covered strategic business planning, change management and capital programme appraisal. I also acted as interim Financial Director for a number of clients. Both the public and private sector were amongst my client base, and this provided me with the opportunity to work on and lead several successful PFI bids.
My IT Systems engagements involved me acting as project leader for clients on IT specification, selection and procurement programmes. I designed, constructed and implemented management information databases using Microsoft Access and frequently trained client staff on ERP systems such as JD Edwards and Pegasus opera.
Whilst at Deloitte & Touche I generated over £750,000 in fees and obtained £150,000 of fee income for other departments within the practice.

Aug '96-Feb '98 Commercial and Financial Manager, McVities Cake Company

McVities Cake Company was a division of United Biscuits and had an annual turnover of £40 million. As Commercial and Financial Manager, I had a team of six staff and reported to the Finance Director. The commercial element of my role involved capital project appraisal for new manufacturing plant, customer account profitability analysis, product profitability analysis and new product cost / benefit appraisals. I developed new systems for all of the above, working closely with the sales force to ensure the systems provided practical tools that could be used easily in production planning as well as presentations to retailers.
The position also gave me the remit of annual statutory reporting for the company, monthly management accounts and monthly group reporting. One of my key achievements was gaining strong experience in factory cost accounting and linking this to my construction of a sales database which could then be used as the basis for creation of annual budgets.

Feb '94-May '95 Financial Analyst, Bertlesmann Music Group (BMG)

I worked within the International marketing and video divisions, reporting directly to the Finance Director. Within the marketing division I was responsible for artist sales analysis, profit centre accounting, royalty reporting, market trend analysis and annual business plans. In the video division my role involved monthly profit and loss reporting, financial consolidations, project risk and returns analysis and annual business plans.
Included in my position as Financial Analyst, was the role of Head of Finance for two joint venture record labels. I reported to the Chief Executives of each company and was accountable for all financial aspects in the running of the companies. This encompassed accounts payable / receivable, tax computations, monthly management accounting, budget preparation and monthly financial performance presentations to the Chief Executive and board of BMG Marketing International.

Sep '91-Jan '94 Finance Manager, LASMO Oil and Gas Plc

As Finance Manager I had responsibility for preparation and review of monthly management accounts for the International Oil and Gas division. I managed and undertook audits of joint venture partners and developed controls for inter-company accounting procedures. My role also encompassed investment appraisal analysis for prospective exploration regions around the globe.
Alongside my regular responsibilities, I worked on two project teams. One focused on establishing overseas finance departments in Colombia and Libya, the other involved the roll out and implementation of CODA Financials and Sun Systems in various overseas LASMO offices.
Prior to my roll as Finance Manager, I was Accounts Payable Supervisor for the International division. I was responsible for all aspects of accounts payable activity, including foreign exchange payments, UK and overseas bank account reconciliation's and exploration cost reporting.
