Oversaw the company’s IT Infrastructure department with a staff of 50, responsible for the data centers, global network infrastructure, user workstations and 1st and 2nd IT support.

Designed and oversaw the implementation of the two corporate data centers in California (US) and Zürich (Switzerland). Consolidated 80% of servers and applications from corporate branches around the world. Reduced costs and improved reliability by virtualising a significant part of the data center infrastructure with VMWare ESX.

Oversaw several major rollouts and migrations: o Rollout of anew Avaya telephone system worldwide. o Migration of the mail platform from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange. o Global rollout of Office 2007. o Rollout of new global Active Directory architecture. o Move of the headquarters to a new location in Irvine, California (US).

I improved the global network infrastructure, standarising on CISCO equipment.  Negotiated framework contracts with major providers like DELL, HP, CISCO and Microsoft.

Created an in-house disaster recovery procedure and security concept to avoid downtime, protect data and improve resilience of the core applications.

Defined and implemented major processes like Change and Problem management and Availability management. Defined KPIs and SLAs and reported metrics regularly to the Executive Team.

Proposed and led several initiatives to outsource non-key competencies of IT to low costs countries in East Europe (Hungary, Poland, and Croatia) and Asia (Malaysia).

Oversaw the company’s IT EMEA team of 17, with the directive of creating a central European IT department from independent entities around the continent.

Responsible for the architecture, planning, technical design and execution of the outsourcing contracts in relation to non-mainframe systems (Unix/Linux and Windows).

Managed the administration and service levels of +5,000 server (IBM, SUN and HP) and +11,000 workstations providing service to Spanish and Portuguese clients. Customers included several blue-chip companies like Telefonica, Continental and Acerlor (now Acerlor Mittal).

Participated in the bidding, contract negotiation and execution of IT outsourcing deals, with contract duration between 3 and 10 years and a total value of several million Euros.

Design of delivery model and calculation of internal costs and prices. o Along with IBM sales staff, negotiated contract terms & conditions with the customer and addressed customer questions and objections to the outsourcing proposal.

Review the customer legacy IT infrastructure, organization and methodologies.

Authored the take-over plan of the customer IT infrastructure and staff. o Prepared the communication plan to engage with the IT staff to be transferred to IBM GS.

Implemented the global IBM GS IT Governance model, based in ITIL.
