Manufacturers and distributors of lithographic offset printing blankets, employing 220 people in 4 UK factories and one USA sales office, with sales turnover of approx. £18 million.

Position held: Managing Director

Successfully merged the businesses of Dunlop and Cow via reorganisation and relocation into a single Strategic Business Unit within the BTR group in 1990.

Operating within the UniPoly group since 1997, lead a venture capital backed Management Buyout in 1999.

Achieved ISO 9002 accreditation in 1993 and ISO9001 in 1998.

Successfully operated a profit related pay scheme under the Inland Revenue guidelines for 5 successive years from 1994 to 1998.

Extensive experience of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation especially in relation to solvent/polymer and VOC emissions environment.

International experience with sales to over 80 countries to end-users and via a network of distributors and agents.

Successfully negotiated an exclusive distribution and consignment stock agreement with the largest distributor in the USA in 1999 and achieved sales growth in USA averaging at a rate of over 50% pa.

Implemented IT strategy including an integrated manufacturing, accounts and sales/order processing system, a Windows based intranet and a Goldmine customer contact management system.

Implemented Human Resources strategy with the aim to achieve Investors in People status in 2002.


Mar 87– Oct 89 MDH Ltd Andover, Hants

Designers, manufacturers and installers of capital equipment for the healthcare and defence industries. Specialists in air filtration for clean rooms, safety cabinets and collective NBC protection. Manufacturers and distributors of sanitary ware. Defence design contractors and project managers. Employing 120 people with sales turnover of approx. £8 million

Position held: Managing Director

Merged the businesses of Microflow, Dent and Hellier, Pathfinder and Cape Warwick into a single Strategic Business Unit within the Intermed division of the BTR group

Implemented manufacturing strategy including MRP and MRP II, CNC workstations and outsourcing.

Implemented an IT strategy including an integrated manufacturing, accounts and sales/order processing system

Assisted the Chief Executive in the divestment of the company.

Mar 76– Mar 87 BTR Silvertown Ltd, Burton-on-Trent, Staffs

A polymer processing company comprising 12 Strategic Business Units manufacturing products for diverse industries from utilities, white goods, defence, transportation, construction, marine, aerospace and offshore. Employed over 500 people with sales turnover of approx. £20 million pa.

Position held: Divisional Director (1985 – 1987)

One of three divisional directors responsible to the Managing Director for a division comprising four business units

Position held: Business Manager, General Mouldings (1985 – 1987)

Responsible to the divisional director for the general management of a rubber moulding, extrusion and hand-forming fabrications business. Sales turnover of approx. £4 million employing over 200 people.

Implemented computerised production planning system

Refocused quality initiatives via quality circles and added value bonus scheme.

Participated in the integration of Andre Rubber, Cutless Bearings, Evco Seals and Dunlop Wrexham businesses during the height of the acquisitive period of BTR; relocating people and facilities.

Successfully negotiated defence contracts to defence standard 0524.

Position held: Business Manager, Pipeline Services (1979 – 1985)

Designer, manufacturer and distributor of polymer based systems to control natural gas leakage from distribution pipes and fittings. Sales turnover of approx. £2 million employing over 20 people.

Implemented a product re-engineering project to satisfy the British Gas and Dutch International gas standards.

Introduced and marketed factored complimentary products: Aerosol foams, bitumen plugs and shrink sleeves.

Initiated a business diversification programme culminating in a new sub-business: Fire Protection. Negotiated a know-how agreement to become licensed manufacturers of a Belgian polymer based system for sealing firewalls and licensed distributors of fire doors and windows.

Position held: Sales Manager, Leakage Control (1976 – 1979)

Responsible to the Business Manager for sales and marketing of Gas Council repair systems for leakage control of gas distribution fittings.

Diversified to International sales in Eire, USA, Poland, Italy, Holland and Germany

Restructured field activity introducing Service Engineers to provide on-site training and quality control.

Mar 73– Mar 76 Lenson Engineering Ltd. Leicester

A family-run engineering business manufacturing materials handling equipment with the core market in the textile industry. Acquired in 1975 by Thorn EMI.

Position held: After sales Service Manager (1975 – 1976)

Responsible for 4 service engineers and the spares sales.

Successfully negotiated a service agreement with Allis Chalmers trucks to service our Electro-hydraulic warehouse trucks in the South of England.

Position held: Product Manager, Electro-hydraulic Goods Lifts (1974 – 1975)

Responsible for sales and marketing of industrial lifts and their installation.

Position held: Technical Author (1973 –1974)

Responsible for all technical manuals and technical sales literature of Electro-hydraulic equipment.
